The DVC Musical Ensembles strive to continue your musical experience into college and through out the rest of your life no matter your career path. If you are a semi-professional or looking to learn a new instrument, we have a place for you. There are great opportunities for those seeking solo, large and small ensemble performances. buy ticketsThe Wind Ensemble is mostly comprised of musicians who attend DVC during the regular school day. They perform high quality works from the established repertoire as well as new music and specially commissioned pieces.Membership is by audition.

The Symphonic Band is comprised of musicians who attend DVC during the regular school day and/or Thursday evenings. The band performs high quality works from the established large ensemble repertoire as well as new music and specially commissioned pieces. Membership is by audition.

vocal jazz 13Concert Chorale

The Diablo Valley Concert Choir is a large mixed choral ensemble featuring a wide range of musical styles, ages and experience levels. The 70-110 member ensemble usually performs two on-campus/East Bay performances per semester. These are often in conjunction with the other DVC choirs as well as the Philharmonic Orchestra. Most recently, the ensemble has performed Mozart's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Corigliano's Fern Hill, Lauridson, Lux Aeterna and Bloch's Sacred Service. Spring 2014, the Choirs will sing Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the DVC Philharmonic. Placement Audition

Chamber Singers

The Diablo Valley College is the premier vocal ensemble of the college. The Chamber Singers consists of 32-44 experienced choral singers. The ensemble sings a wide variety of literature from medieval to modern, from pop to opera. The group often combines with the concert choir and sings large choral/orchestral works the DVC Philharmonic orchestra. In addition, the group presented Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors last December and will perform opera scene from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and Kurt Weill's Street Scene. Over the years, many members of the ensemble have often received the opportunity to solo with the DVC Orchestra. Audition required

Vocal Jazz/Pop Ensembles

diviciThe Vocal Jazz Ensemble course at DVC, divides great jazz, pop, R&B, gospel and rock singers into smaller musical ensembles. These groups perform at least twice a semester on campus as well as touring throughout the Bay area. The groups have also performed on many California Jazz Festivals over the past 10 years. The singers work in male, female, and mixed groups often accompanied by a jazz combo or big band. There are also a great deal of unaccompanied singing, scatting and solos for each individual. Audition required


DiViCi is the newest musical ensemble at DVC. It is comprised of 5-6 singers performing a capella pop and jazz. This group performs many concerts each year and will travel around the city, bay area and state performing for a varity of functions. Each successful membership in this ensemble includes a 1K annual scholarship.


Rick Flores | director

The Diablo Valley Guitar Ensemble has been under Rick’s direction since 1999 and is one of the longest running guitar ensembles in the Bay Area. Through the rare medium of around twenty acoustic guitars, the ensemble performs a variety of classical, jazz and world music. The group is able to accommodate students at all levels of playing ability and experience.

jazz comboThe DVC Jazz Studies Program is large and well rounded with over 200 students each semester enrolled in jazz classes. Current offerings include three sections of Jazz History, a large Jazz Ensemble, five small Jazz Combos, Vocal Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Theory and Improvisation, and Jazz/Pop Solo Voice. The Jazz Ensemble and a Combo attend jazz festivals regularly.

Major guest artists are presented once or twice a year, and have included Phil Woods, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Bob Mintzer, Joe Henderson, Clark Terry, Don Menza, Gordon Goodwin, Bobby Hutcherson, Carl Allen, John O’Gallagher and many more. Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is an inclusive big band that fosters self-reliance and collective music making. The band is comprised of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a full rhythm section including electric and acoustic bass, guitar, vibraphone, piano, keyboards, drums and percussion. We also feature vocalists with the band. The band performs in a wide variety of styles from both classic and modern literature, including swing, Latin, funk, ballads and rock.

Jazz Combos

The Jazz Combos focus upon classic and modern jazz in the small group setting. Dynamic interplay and improvisation are explored, while repertoire is based upon the styles and bands of past masters such as Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk. Student compositions and arrangements are encouraged.


violin guyThe Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra is a student/community orchestra serving the Diablo Valley College community. The orchestra provides orchestral training for local high school and community college music students, as well as music making opportunities for musicians from the community.

Student soloists are frequently featured along with new music composed by Diablo Valley College faculty, students, and community members. The orchestra is a sharing place for the great orchestral literature.
